Douglas SBD-3 Dauntles

Another very rare bird from the Commemorative Air Force's (formerly the Confederate Air Force) Dixie Wing flying out of Atlanta, Georgia an A-24B Banshee dressed as a SBD-3 Dauntless (s/n 42-54532) photographed here during the 2011 NAS Jax Air Show on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

The pilots flying both the SBD and the Helldiver on saturday flew these two very rare and beautiful aircraft the way they were originally designed to be flown demonstrating steep diving attacks for the cheering masses gathered along the showline. With most of these rare types of aircraft owners/pilots tend to baby these expensive machines around the air circuit. But I am a believer in "If there are no guts.....There is no Glory" I salute both the pilots and the owners of these aircraft in taking the risk to show the average joe-public what these aircraft were designed to do.
